Dove Body Wash Review and Sweepstakes.

I think we all know by now that I’m a low-maintenance gal. I don’t make much fuss over my appearance unless my husband is going to be around or I’m going to book club. My typical outfit is jeans and a t-shirt with minimal makeup; and let’s just put it this way, my husband uses more hair product per year than I do. So when BlogHer and the makers of Dove chose me to review one of the body washes in their new lineup I thought, “Really, are you sure?”

Then it dawned on me that I’m the perfect candidate since the new line is geared toward pampering in the simplest, most efficient way. As someone who doesn’t have time for a major beauty regimen, something as easy as using a body wash to baby my skin is right up my alley, especially now that it’s shorts season.

Dove sent me their Visible Care Renewing Crème, part of their premium body wash line. In their words it’s “designed to nourish and replenish skin… with {their} highest concentration of NurtriumMoisture ™ , contains skin natural building blocks to help improve skin’s look over time. Use for softer, smoother skin in one week. And with continued use, skin is visibly more beautiful within 3 weeks.”

I’m going to be honest, when I read this I thought, “Seriously? What can this do for me in one week?”  I was a little nervous I wouldn’t be able to give the product a good review. See we already use Dove moisturizing bar soap as a body and face bar (like I said, low maintenance). We switched a few years ago at the recommendation of our dermatologist. He said Dove was one of the easiest soaps for skin… that many bar soaps contribute to dry, flaky skin but Dove doesn’t.

Luckily for Dove (and me) I really put it to the test and got good results. I targeted two areas over a seven-day period… my legs and my heels.

1)   The leg test
Okay, so this is really personal, but I’m gonna put it out there anyway. I shave my legs in the shower without cream or soap. I wet-shave. I think I just made up that term, but it’s exactly what it sounds like. The opposite of dry-shaving. I let the shower stream over my legs and shave. Okay, got the picture?

I don’t really have any problems doing this… no nicks or razor burn. The only thing is that I need to put lotion on my legs afterward. Pretty normal, right? This week I lathered up with the Dove and used it to shave. When I got out I didn’t put lotion on. I wanted to see if my legs would get ashy. Guess what? They didn’t. They stayed moisturized! No dry whiteness… no flaking. I was impressed.

2)   The heel test
The second test is still in process but I’m already seeing results. You know how in the summer when you wear flip-flops every day and walk around on the bottom of a pool how your heels get dried and cracked?  Yours don’t? Well, mine do.  Every time I shower, I lather the Dove Visible Care Renewing Crème over my heels and feet. In the last seven days my heels are visibly less dry and cracked and feel smoother to the touch. I purposefully haven’t used any lotion on them (or my legs for that matter) to see how the body wash works on its own. I’m really curious to see how my heels will feel after the three weeks because I’m still abusing the heck out of them.

UPDATE: the body wash did not fix the cracking heel problem. It just can't keep up with my flip-flopped feet. (scategories anyone?) However, it did make them better.

Okay, so there you have it. I had nothing to be nervous about. These things do work afterall. I can’t believe I have visibly more beautiful skin from a body wash. To learn more about Dove’s new line of body washes, visit their website at: http://www.dove.us/
