The Request

Henry took the kids to the pet store Saturday. This was in our door Sunday morning.


Dear Mom,
If we take good care of Taurus for 20 weeks can get a hamster?
Love Ainsley

And this picture. Of a hamster. Or a mole. Or a baby seal.


Natalie wrote the note per Ainsley's request. Ainsley drew the picture.

Famous last words.... "WE ARE NOT GETTING A HAMSTER." I know this because the girls cannot take good care of Taurus for 20 weeks, a number they came up with on their own. They cannot take good care of themselves for 20 weeks. That's why God made me their mother. Besides that, we have a cat. She eats mice. And moles. And hamsters. She has yet to eat a baby seal.

    Hahahahaha! I agree with you, as I have owned a hamster and a gerbil, both which escaped in my house numerous times. The hamster was even caught (ever so gently) by our Siberian husky. He didn't kill her, but it didn't deter her from getting out again. I'm not a big fan of rodents...now if you're interested in lizards, I have the perfect bearded dragon for you! :)

    aw, I think you should let them have the hamster. I remember in 5th or 6th grade Johanna & I went to the petstore and bought 2 hamsters and hid them in her room. Mom eventually found them. Also, we ended up with hamster babies because although we thought we bought two boys, turns out Ernie was a girl.

    That's so funny! We now have a hamster. My 6 year old aka future lawyer wrote the most detailed and compelling letter that Santa has ever seen. She quoted from the hamster books her school library so kindly supplied her with and detailed what his needs would be and how she would meet them. We already have 2 dogs and a cat but for some reason Santa thought we could keep a hamster alive.

    And honestly, it's the moved loved, tame hamster ever. The cat ignores him (and our cat is a mouser but has zero interest in the hamster) but the young dog is pretty sure we're holding out on a delicious snack!

    I have 2 very cute Robo Hamsters I can lend you...I can even lend them to you for the rest of their lives!! They are now 2 years old and still going strong (their life expectancy is supposed to be 2 years). They are cute, but still require work. My 2 girls promised they would take care of them. They promised, promised AND promised...so much so, that I actually believed them. Not sure how long that promise lasted, but it wasn't long. It really doesn't take long to clean their cage, but it is still one other task that needs to be done on a routine basis. If I were you, I would stick to your words...although I do believe I said those same words. =)

    Our cat is a mouser; she regularly disembowels mice for fun. Last summer I noticed her laying in the grass and as I walked toward her, she just laid there. I thought it was rather strange since she always runs to greet me. When I reached her, I leaned down and picked her up only to discover a very tame looking domestic rat underneath her. When I dropped her in surprise she ran over and laid on it again, never harming it.

    6 months later and the rat happily resides with my SIL and I'm still baffled by my cat's behavior.

    haha love this!!! so funny... I was going to mention Katie and Johanna's escapades with the hamsters but she already did. haha that could happen though if you got a hamster or two

    Haha, that is so cute! Or one of them could wait until she completes her freshman year of college and brings home a puppy she "rescued." My son did this and said puppy is still with us, while said son is working 900 miles away, ha! (Talking to others, this happens quite often - you might get that hamster, yet!)

    I feel like that picture is a walrus. Taurus couldn't possibly eat a walrus. Coo coo ga joo!

    We had the cat/guinea pig combo. Cat sat on top of guinea pig's cage even with a towel on top. It was relentless. Guinea pig eventually died....of terror.
