In-house again

Ryan was admitted to the hospital around lunch time yesterday for respiratory distress. It seems he has a virus affecting his ability to breathe. His O2 saturation level is sitting in the low 70's on 3 liters per minute of supplemental oxygen. I brought him in initially because his heart looked like it was beating faster. By the time we arrived it was coming back down to normal but still working hard. His heart rate is now back to baseline. The biggest concern is that his O2 levels dip into the 40's without supplemental oxygen. We will most likely sit tight until he can sustain acceptable levels.

Ryan was very unhappy to be at the doctor's. He associates white coats with vaccinations and now thinks every visit will involve a shot. He held onto me like a little monkey and cried whenever they tried to assess him. Once we were admitted to the floor he continually fought the nasal cannula and the ox probe taped to his foot. In the night he woke up almost as if in a night terror crawling around the bed in circles. I think he was trying to get away from the tube in his nose. Otherwise he slept well and continues to nap this morning.

A new friend that I met in September whose children are the same age as Natalie and Ainsley graciously picked them up from school and took care of them last night. She said the girls are not anxious at all. Please pray Ryan wouldn't be too anxious and that his little body heals quickly so we can go home. We will keep you posted.
